Urban Heat Island: Causes, Consequences, and Mitigation Measures with Emphasis on Reflective and Permeable Pavements

چکیده
Economic and social development of urban rural areas continues in parallel with the increase human population, especially developing countries, which leads to sustained expansion impervious surface areas, particularly paved surfaces. The conversion pervious surfaces significantly modifies local energy balance contributes heat island (UHI) formation, mainly densely developed cities. This paper represents a literature review on causes consequences UHI potential measures that could be adopted improve microclimate. primary focus is discuss summarise significant findings phenomenon its consequences, such as impact thermal comfort health, consumption, air pollution, water quality deterioration. Regarding mitigate UHI, particular emphasis given reflective permeable pavements.

Urban Heat Island: Causes, Effects and Mitigation Measures - A Review
High temperature in the city centers than its’ surroundings known as the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect, which is causing discomfort to the urban dwellers in the summer time is gaining much attention around the world because the world is getting urbanized as it advances in technology. Alterations of surface area, improper urban planning, air pollution, etc. are causing this increasingly growing...
متن کاملReduction of Urban Heat Island Effect through Harvest of Heat Energy from Asphalt Pavements
Asphalt pavement surfaces contribute significantly to the urban heat island effect. Their relatively high temperature, caused by absorption of solar energy, results in emission of heat to the surrounding air, leading to a rise in its temperature, deterioration of its quality, and an increase in energy consumption of the surrounding buildings. The proposed concept is that the heat from the pavem...
متن کاملThe urban heat island Mitigation Impact Screening Tool (MIST)
A web-based screening tool has been developed to assist urban planners and air quality management officials in assessing the potential of urban heat island mitigation strategies to affect the urban climate, ozone air quality, and energy consumption within their cities. The user of the screening tool can select from any of over 200 US cities for which to conduct the analysis. The mitigation stra...
متن کاملThe mitigation effect of configuration and context optimization of urban holdings on heat island
The urban heat island (UHI) phenomenon has become a serious problem in recent years. It is necessary to study the mitigation methods and quantify their effects on UHI. In this paper, based on the remote sensed data, an empirical model was established as a negative function of land surface temperature (LST) to vegetation coverage. Urban heat island intensity (UHII) was estimated by a robust stat...
متن کاملUrban Heat Island
We are all familiar with the fact that cities are generally warmer than the surrounding, more rural areas. We see it referenced most nights in our television weather reports. It is especially significant on nights with clear skies and light winds which favor radiational cooling. This is most significant in the rural areas but in the city, the excess heat absorbed during the day and the local he...
